Innovad presented the following three pieces of work at the prestigious Symposium on Gut Health in Production of Food Animals held October 31–November 3, 2021, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA’:

Chronic gut inflammation – a hidden cost

Our novel findings on chronic intestinal inflammation and its negative impact on animal performance were presented orally at the prestigious Symposium on Gut Health in Production of Food Animals held October 31–November 3, 2021, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA’ by Dr. Don Ritter, Sr. Poultry Technical Manager in Innovad USA. The title of the oral presentation was ‘A broiler chronic gut inflammation model under real farming conditions and the alleviation of its negative consequences with Lumance®, an in-feed technology’, which triggered a lot of fruitful discussion with the scientific audience. It was widely recognized both by Academia and Industry that an in vivo chronic intestinal inflammation model under real farming conditions was indeed missing and it was particularly welcomed. Several attendees expressed the confidence that the concept of the novel model will help the scientific community to better evaluate and develop new technologies for gut health.

Dr. Christos Gougoulias, Director of Innovation in Innovad added: ‘This piece of work designates a new era on Gut Health for us and more exciting research is underway – stay tuned’.

Aflocox® - A 100% natural aid for the control of coccidiosis

Innovad has recently developed Aflocox®, a novel 100% natural phytogenic technology, based on in-house extraction capabilities, aiding the control of coccidiosis in modern poultry production. The novel research findings on Aflocox® were orally presented at the prestigious Symposium on Gut Health in Production of Food Animals held October 31–November 3, 2021, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA’ by Dr. Don Ritter, Sr. Poultry Technical Manager in Innovad USA with the full title: ‘Evaluation of a novel plant-based technology aiding the control of coccidiosis in modern poultry production’.

In this research, Aflocox® was evaluated in two different set-ups: a) under an experimental mixed Eimeria challenge (Eimeria acervulinaE. maxima and E. tenella) conducted by the independent CRO Poulpharm in Belgium and, b) under real production conditions, using a novel chronic inflammation model as a trigger for naturally occurring coccidiosis.

Effects of Nutritional-induction of chronic inflammation on Broiler Gut Health and Performance

Gabriela Cardoso Dal Pont, PhD candidate at Texas A&M, USA presented some novel research on chronic gut inflammation.  The research was a collaboration between Innovad, Dr. Mike Kogut from USDA, the Department of Poultry Science of Texas A&M and the Western Parana State University in Brazil. Interestingly, it was shown that high rice bran inclusion in the broilers feed proved a better model for induction of chronic intestinal inflammation than oxidized oil, with detrimental impact on the animals’ performance. Also, important to notice is that compromised intestinal health with negative effects on performance can happen without gross lesions.

“The work here is part of our ongoing commitment to advance our knowledge and strengthen our expertise on Gut Health. More exciting research is underway so, stay tuned,” added Jason Lorjé (DVM), Marketing Director in Innovad.
